Meet Joshua Masten
The Sound Collaborative is thrilled to have Joshua Masten join its Board of Directors!
Joshua has spent most of his life either living in or visiting Northwest Arkansas. He lived in Springdale as a child, and then moved back to NWA in 2006 for work. He and his wife, Lindsay, were married in August of 2020, live in Bentonville, and actively serve in their local church and community.
One of Joshua’s early musical inspirations came while watching his grandmother play piano in church. “I remember watching in amazement at my grandma’s ability to play any song in any key, without reading a single note of music”.
Like many musicians, Joshua started his musical journey in grade school band and further cut his teeth by playing music in church. At the age of 12 he started taking lessons in music theory, composition, and part writing.
At the age of 14, Joshua picked up a guitar for the first time, discovering classic rock, classic R&B, blues, and rock ‘n roll. “My parents encouraged me to practice regularly and become proficient on the guitar. They understood the value that learning music has on all other aspects of learning and personal development.” he shares.
Joshua also serves as an Arkansas District Leader for HonorBound Motorcycle Ministry, serving the local community through charitable events, ministering to veterans, bikers, kids, and everyone in between.
Joshua credits the blending of hymns, gospel, soul, blues, R&B and classic rock as influences for his music. “Over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate all genres of music. I’m particularly fond of music that can pull the listener into the emotions and feelings that the song-writer is trying to convey”.
Joshua has played in several bands throughout the last 25 years, spanning rock, R&B, Soul, and Americana. Currently, he plays with a band called Handshake Saints based in Bentonville.
Joshua is excited to bring 17 years of experience in live event and corporate meeting production, 20 years of experience in live sound/video production, and 25 years of experience in live music performance with him to The Sound Collaborative.
He currently works as an Event Producer for Walmart Inc, serves as a District Leader in HonorBound Motorcycle Ministry, and in his free time, Joshua loves riding his motorcycle, hunting, and fishing.
About his excitement for The Sound Collaborative, Joshua shares, “The Northwest Arkansas area is filled with talented artists from different mediums and genres. We often meet each other when going to and from gigs, but now I’m excited to see The Sound Collaborative offer a place for artists to converge for collaboration, creation, learning, and connection.
The Sound Collaborative received its official 501c3 approval on Christmas Eve! We will soon begin seeking financial backers and in-kind partnerships.
