Meet Stephen Carter

The Sound Collaborative is thrilled to have Stephen Carter join its Board of Directors as Secretary.

Music has been an inseparable part of Stephen’s life since he was 3 years old, watching Diane Bish playing the organ on PBS. From an early age he could appreciate the beauty of diverse instruments—from his Kawai grand piano, to the viola he played on a couple of occasions with the Arkansas Symphony.

In high school Stephen taught himself guitar and drums and played in a jam band with some friends. When he and his wife, Melissa, worked in Costa Rica, Stephen played parties at the U.S. Marine’s residence.

”Music is also an important source of therapy for me which I am passionate about sharing with others. This is one reason I’m excited to join The Sound Collaborative: to help more people access all that music has to offer.” Stephen shares.

Stephen is the founder and CEO of his company, S.Carter Create, where he helps brands integrate stories with services, and values with proposition, through creative storytelling.

He worked for Walmart for eight years, leading digital communication and channel strategy for Walmart's response to the COVID-19 crisis. He also brokered a first-of-its-kind partnership between Walmart and a leading human rights NGO that led to the protection of men from forced labor slavery in the Thai seafood industry and the conviction and jailing of a powerful trafficker.

Stephen has a M.A. degree in Digital Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design and a B.A. in Mass Communications and Political Science from Ouachita Baptist University. He is also a mental health advocate who loves to learn new things. In his spare time, he enjoys flying drones and composing music. Stephen is blessed with three kids and an amazing wife.

The Sound Collaborative received its official 501c3 approval on Christmas Eve! We’re hosting our first ever fundraising event on NWA Gives Day, April 6th. Every dollar you give will bring musicians one step closer to collaboration in Northwest Arkansas.
